World Bank Supports Strengthening the Implementation of the Rogun Hydropower Project

As part of its support to the energy sector of the Republic of Tajikistan, the World Bank is providing technical assistance aimed at strengthening the financial, commercial, environmental, and social frameworks for the implementation of the Rogun Hydropower Project.

The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved grant financing of US$15 million for the implementation of the Technical Assistance for Financing Framework for the Rogun Hydropower Project in the Republic of Tajikistan.

The initiative is designed to enhance project preparation and implementation through improvements to financial and commercial arrangements, strengthening environmental and social approaches, and ensuring alignment with current international hydropower industry requirements.

The technical assistance includes engagement of specialized international experts, support for further project readiness to mobilize financing, and development of mechanisms aimed at expanding socio-economic benefits for the population.

Implementation of these measures is expected to improve the project’s sustainability and create additional conditions for the long-term development of the country’s energy sector.
