Updated ESIA
27 October 2023
In 2014, an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment was prepared for the Rogun Hydropower Project (HPP) on the Vakhsh River in Tajikistan and there were meetings in Almaty (Kazakhstan) and Dushanbe (Tajikistan) to discuss this ESIA and other planning documents. Documents from 2014 may be found on this website.
The Project Management Group for Energy Facilities Construction (PMG EFC) Under the President of Tajikistan is pleased to announce that the 2014 ESIA has been updated. The update was necessary to identify any new or different impacts on people and the environment in Tajikistan and/or in countries downstream of Rogun HPP on the Amu Darya River.
A draft of the updated ESIA in English is being made available for download and review. These documents are intended to inform governments and other interested parties for purposes of public consultations. A Russian translation of the draft updated ESIA will be posted on or about November 3, 2023.
The ESIA is in three volumes: Volume 1 is the main body of the assessment, Volume 2 includes technical annexes, and Volume 3 is the environmental and social management plan.
In addition, a NonTechnical Summary of the updated ESIA is available in English and Russian. Tajik version will be available soon as well. This Summary describes how interested parties may provide information or comments for consideration.
