MEETING WITH HEAD OF GROUP OF MEMBERS OF EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ON WATER ISSUES CRISTINA GUTIÉRREZ-CORTINES

Meeting with head of Group of members of European Parliament on water issues Cristina Gutrrez-Cortines.

This morning President Emomali Rahmon received a number of high-ranking guests, who arrived in Dushanbe for participation in the International High-Level Conference on Water Cooperation. 

The first meeting was held with member of European Parliament, head of Group of members of European Parliament on water issues Cristina Gutiérrez-Cortines. 

During the talks the issues of wide-ranging cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union have been reviewed, and the level and content of good relationships have been noted with satisfaction.  

Head of state Emomali Rahmon expressed satisfaction over the fact that the constructive position of Tajikistan on water and energy issues in the world arena, including in the European Union is being more and more correctly understood and supported.  

It was stated that “in working out and implementation of hydropower projects of Tajikistan interests of all neighboring countries in the region both from the point of view of supply with water and with electricity power have been taken into consideration”. It was in particular highlighted: “If there were no hydropower stations and water reservoirs of Tajikistan, reclamation of millions of hectares of lands would be impossible in downstream countries”.  

Cristina Gutiérrez stated that “the European Union, including its parliamentary structure will render their assistance in the creation of favorable climate for the expansion of constructive regional cooperation in Central Asia”.
